RI Grade Span Expectations in the Arts (GSE: Theatre)

T1 (9-12)-1 Students show skill development in acting directing, designing, and scriptwriting by writing dialogues, scenes, applying basic dramatic structure; developing stage directions for a play or performance based on a script (or improvisation).

Use technology,including, the internet, to produce and publish writing and to interact and collaborate with others. Rationale: 

BYB~Big Yellow Bus Radio Project is designed to provide experience in theatre (Understanding 1 Artistic Processes), using multidisciplinary tools, techniques, and technology in order to make the imagined...tangible.  Inspired by NPR and Rhode Island's own radio program Action Speaks, the project encourages students to create radio programing based on their Big yellow Bus field trip experience as young Rhode Island arts patrons.  BYB Radio blends the arts with journalism and research, broadcasting, performance, and technology.  Students are encouraged to create individual or ensemble programs as part of a creative team.

Methods / Materials: 

1.  Complete a Before You Go activity for each BYB field trip performance you attend so that you have a supply of start-up research/documentation for your radio show.
2.  Draft a plan for a 20 minute radio show inspired by your attendance at arts and cultural events.
3.  Your show can be creative content, broadcast journalism, or documentary.
4.  Draft any questions that will need research in order to write and perform your show. 
5.  Script, design (sound), cast, perform, and use technology to record your show.

Time to Complete: 

15 hours plus attendance at events.
